The Buzz about Blogs

The Current Buzz about Blogs The “blogosphere

You probably awareof The Current Buzz about Blogs The “blogosphere” is continuing to grow at an amazing pace. In fact, the number of published blogs is expected to double about every five months.

Right now, there is a new blog published every second, according to Technorati, the search engine that keeps track of Weblogs. In March there were over 7 million blogs, that number is now over 14 million and expanding exponentially.

Weblogs have become the homepages of the 21st century and are used for everything from sharing recipes, personal opinions and travel adventures, to the latest in political and economic news.

Blogs are also facing their share of controversy and praise. Reporters Without Borders recently published their “short list” of the seven best blogs out of 60, which won the “Freedom Blog Awards” for defending freedom of expression.

Winners (who are chosen by the public who vote for their favorite blogs) included “Shared Pains” which describes life in Afghan, and Mojtaba Saminejad, an Iranian whose blog is published in the Farsi language. (He received a two-year prison sentence in 2005 because of his blog). Another winner, Jeff Ooi, publishes the Malaysian blog “Screenshots” which is in English. Because he allowed a comment on his blog back in 2004 which reportedly “insulted Islam” according to authorities, he was also threatened with imprisonment.

This award marks the first year for the event, but Reporters Without Borders hopes to make it an annual one. The organization follows and reports on freedom of the press around the world.

In oppressive countries, such as Iran (which shut down almost all independent newspapers in 2000), blogs have provided a way for journalists and others to express themselves and share the latest news and happenings. But speaking up in such places often has serious consequences, such as one blogger in Iraq who was jailed by authorities after speaking up about what was simply a local problem.

China is another repressive area. Only recently Chinese authorities declared that all bloggers had to register their blogs with them, or risk being shut down.

To help combat these and similar problems around the world, organizations are being set up to provide global support among bloggers for those who are being repressed.

One of the biggest controversies right now, is whether bloggers should receive “journalistic” status. Some people see blogs and bloggers as a kind of counterbalance to what they see as media arrogance, while others call them vigilantes. Recent events with Newsweek, CBS News and others have caused a division between the main stream media (MSM) and bloggers who feel the “truth is out there” and they want it told.

Blogging - Developing A Readership

Blogging - Developing A Readership by: Rose DesRochers You've finally created a blog and you've made your first post. Now how do you get people to actually read what you're blogging about? Here are some tips on promoting your blog. 1) Quality Content - Interesting content will keep your readership returning. Update your blog regularly. Googlebot, which is Google's web-crawling robot loves content. The more you update your blog, the more frequent the search engine spiders will return to it. 2) Take part in forums that are related to blogging. Ask other bloggers for their opinion on your blog and take their suggestions to heart. Ask other bloggers for their opinion on your blog and take their suggestions to heart. 3) Publish an RSS/Atom/XML feed. If you're using Blogger, you can turn on RSS feed by clicking on settings in your dashboard and then clicking on site feed and make sure that your settings are set to yes. 4) Carefully choose your subject titles, taking into consideration what other internet users may be searching for. Use keywords in your title. I suggest subscribing to Word Tracker. Their report of the most popular searches is published each Tuesday and distributed to over 30,000 subscribers. Technorati.com, is a blog search engine that also lists the top search words. The more targeted your keywords are, the greater your return in search engines will be. 5) Involve yourself in commenting on other blogs. You can gain a loyal readership just by offering feedback to your fellow bloggers. The comment feature allows you to add a link back to your blog as well. 6) Be sure to include your blog address in forum signatures and in your email signature. 7) Submit your blog to directories. Submit your blog's url to Technorati, Daypop, Blogdex and Popdex. 8) Write articles. Include a resource box in your article and submit it to article directories such as http://isnare.com/ 9) If you're using blogging software such as Blogger, there is an option to notify the central blog update services (such as http://weblogs.com/) whenever you've made a new entry to your blog. Make sure that this option is turned on! In blogger, click on publish in your dashboard and make sure that your settings are set to yes under notify weblogs. Alternatively, you can go to http://ping-o-matic.com/ and send out a ping each time you update your blog. This lets everyone know that you've just updated your blog. 10) Link to other blogs. Use services like blogrolling, which is similar to linking. Blogrolling allows you to maintain an updated list of your favorite blogs. But, don't build a long blog roll of sites that you have no intention of returning to. There is nothing more annoying then visiting a blog that has a humongous blogroll. Be patient, traffic doesn't happen overnight. The best way that I've found to increase traffic is by getting to know people. Spend what free time that you have, reading blogs, leaving feedback and building friendships. Try to leave comments on the blogs that you visit as often as you can. While you are waiting for the traffic to come, just enjoy blogging. You'll be improving your writing in the process. Eventually you'll build a network of not just readers, but friends and loyal supporters. Blogging is not just about marketing; it's about creating lasting relationships. Cool Blog Templates

Hello ,
This week I came across a real neat and nifty lttle tool called Blog Template Designs.
Elizabeth Sinclair & Siah Thong ahve come up with this cool software. As you probably know if you like blogging and use blogger.com then you are confined to a limited variety of templates to choose from.
This package allows you to design the templtes more or less from scratch. Great if you are just starting out blogging and would like to make your blog stand out from the rest.

It gives you the ability to choose the layout, background colours, links, title descriptions, Size and style of the fonts.
Alows you to add your adsense publisher codes so you can start earning some money from your blog. Then the software generates the template code and all you have to do is copy and paste it into your blogger account template - and you're done.

It's that simple

If you are already familier with templates and how they work you will not need this unless you just simply want to make life a lot easier for yourself because its a lot faster than tradionally copying the template and editing it in your favourite html editor.

Ok Take a look at it here - Adsense Blogging Template Design
